Now you may be saying why should I listen to someone who has been dieting on and off for years? Well here’s the thing, I like to eat, and I don’t like to diet. What I have found is that when I need to slim down for a special occasion or a trip to the beach, I can lose up to 10 pounds in just a week.

I have found that most diets work to different degrees. The problem is if you are not born with a silver metabolism and are not naturally thin, then it is difficult to maintain a slender figure. Oh I have done it for lengthy. Some time by eating healthy foods and avoiding treats and sweets. But I find that although I feel great physically, I tend to be a little irritable because I like sweets, like ice cream, and aerobics workouts three times a week just gets tedious.

So I’m not going to tell you how to stay in long-term, because that requires dedication and willpower to put one’s health and appearance before contentment. I am certainly not one to tell you that. There are popular Internet diets that are more permanent solutions.

First off, let’s talk about what you should be eating and what you shouldn’t be eating. If it is a bread or is made with white processed flour then it is off limits. I know, I know, read is a staple of just about everyone’s meals. I know I love cornbread smothered in butter and honey. But when I am dieting there are no exceptions no bread no cake no flour.

Soda is just poison, it should be eliminated diet or not. Sweetened juices of any kind are off-limits. I love milk, but the week of dieting it to is a no-no. No coffee, no alcohol, just cold water and green tea. Iced tea as long as it has no sugar in it actually works very well. The first thing I drink when I get up in the morning during this crash diet, is a glass of refrigerated water. It really gets the metabolism fired up.

You need to eat protein. Salmon is great, and so is to Talapia. You can also eat chicken, or pork loin. As for everything else you eat, here is the rule for diet week. If it is a fruit or a vegetable you may eat it, if it is not a fruit, vegetable or one of the meats, then you may not eat it.

I have a book called Calorie King, and what it does is list the calorie values of every food we can get. I plan a menu for all seven days of my diet in advance. My total calorie consumption for the entire seven days will be 7700 calories. I am of course targeting and 1100 calorie day. I will warn you, you can survive on 1100 calories per day, but you are hungry all the time. Not fun. But it works.

When I plan my menu I schedule in a lot of fruit. The more acidic the better. Oranges and grapes are really effective. I also like watermelon because it is filling and it is mostly water. Don’t worry about fructose being a sugar. These sugars do not react like typical sugar in terms of making you fat. I know the experts may not agree with me, but it has been my experience they are fine.

Now that we have the body pulling calories from our fat and not allowing it to get enough of its calories from food, we are now going to do some serious calorie burning to ramp it up. Yes I’m talking about exercise, and a lot of it.

Now we get down to the hard part where I teach you how to lose inches off your waist with some good old cardio. 45 minutes of aerobics every other day. This can be at a live aerobics class or a DVD but do not cheat, it has to be at least an honest 45 minutes. The remaining days in between are going to be an outdoor activity. Now if you are closed in due to snow or extremely low temperatures then all seven days will be aerobics on a DVD.

If you are a woman under 30, you can do the non-aerobic days by jogging or playing a sport like tennis. The timetable is the same, 45 minutes. If you are a woman over 30, you are carrying most of your weight in your hips and behind.

Your alternate exercise, will be cycling. I like to ride my bike with the gears set so that the paddling is very easy, I am not trying to build muscle I am trying to burn calories. And by pedaling a lot, and not getting very far, I am burning the calories off of my hips, butt and thighs. Okay I will admit it, 30 was a long time ago for me.
